Greensky Bluegrass Conclude Sit-in Heavy Weekend with Red Rocks Announcement

Greensky Bluegrass have announced their Red Rocks Amphitheatre return for two nights, beginning on Sept. 13, with guest openers, The California Honey Drops, and a follow-up the next evening, Sept. 14, featuring Andy Frasco & The U.N. During both concerts in Morrison, Colo., longtime collaborator, Holly Bowling will sit in. News lands after a particularly busy weekend for the Michigan natives. 

Before the Red Rocks news dropped, Greensky Bluegrass welcomed some special guests during their weekend presentations, including Melt member Veronica Steward-Frommer, adding to the main frame after opening the night with her band Melt,on Feb. 2 at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. The vocalist helped out during the final song of set one, a rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” 

In continuation of their weekend run, Greensky Bluegrass turned up at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, where they brought out hometown player and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead vocalist and guitarist Tom Hamilton, who layered electric licks during second set songs, “Worry for You,” which merged into “Worried About the Weather.” Hamilton reemerged for the encore, a take on Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

Finally, during their Feb. 4 stand at The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., members of Melt once again sat in during Greensky Bluegrass’ display, following their slot as openers. Once again, vocalist Stewart-Frommer took the stage, adding to the night’s cover of The Beatles’ “Let It Be” with fellow band member and guitarist Marlo Shankweiler.
