Can drummers read music?

    Yes, drummers can read music, but they read it differently from other musicians. Drummers read what is known as percussion notation, which uses a different system than the traditional treble and bass clefs used in most other musical instruments. Percussion notation shows the player what kind of stroke to use and when to strike the drum. It may look daunting to those unfamiliar with it, but it is a very effective means of communication between composers and performers in the percussive arts.
