The three main types of drums are:
1. Membranophones: These are drums that have a single or multiple skins called a membrane that is stretched over a shell. They include timpani, snare drums, bass drums, and bongos.
2. Idophones: These are percussion instruments that create sound by the vibration of their own material. They can be made of wood, metal, or clay. Examples include marimbas, vibraphones, xylophones, cymbals, triangles, and glockenspiels.
3. Aerophones: These are musical instruments that produce sound by blowing air into them. They include whistles, flutes, trumpets, and other wind instruments. In the context of drums, the only aerophone is the Western concert drum.
