Why do bands have 2 drummers?

Some bands employ two drummers primarily for the sake of achieving a thicker, more intricate rhythmic soundscape. Having two drummers allows for more percussive voices in the music, which can be creatively used to wield a greater variety of rhythmic textures and dynamics. It can also be used for doubling specific parts, layering grooves, and for providing glide paths in case one drummer needs to perform a solo during a live performance. However, it’s important to note that this is not a standard practice for every band, as many can achieve a wide range of sounds with just one drummer.
