Why is drum so loud?

    Drums, specifically the drum set, are designed to be percussive instruments, meaning they are intended to be hit to produce sound. The loudness is a result of the force applied to the drumhead or cymbal. The larger the drum or cymbal, the louder the sound due to the increased surface area. Also, the use of drumsticks and mallets further enhances the sound.
