Some guitarists, especially those who play acoustic and folk guitar, may use fake nails to enhance their sound and provide a better grip on the strings. It is also common in classical guitar playing. They are often called “guitar nails” or “fingernails”. These are usually made of hard plastic or fiber glass. It is, however, less common among electric guitarists, who tend to prefer the natural feeling and sound provided by bare fingers. There are, of course, exceptions to this, and some famous electric guitarists also use fake nails. It is a personal choice and can vary greatly depending on the musician’s style, preference, and the sound they wish to produce.
