The very first rock song is subjective and debatable because the genre of rock music didn’t exist as a distinct style until the late 1940s. However, one of the earliest songs that could be considered rock ‘n’ roll is “That’s All Right” by Arthur Crudup, recorded in 1946, or “Good Rockin’ Tonight” by Roy Brown, recorded in 1947. Both of these songs had a significant influence on the development of rock music. Elvis Presley’s 1954 recording of “That’s All Right” is often cited as an important early rock record as well.
