    Upright and grand pianos have three pedals each, but their functions and locations differ slightly due to the design of the pianos.

    1. Damper Pedal: The left pedal on both upright and grand pianos is the damper pedal. It lifts all the dampers from the strings when pressed, allowing the notes to continue sounding even after the keys are released. This effect is known as sustain, and it’s widely used in romantic and impressionistic music.

    2. Soft Pedal: The middle pedal is the soft pedal, also known as the una corda pedal. On a grand piano, when this pedal is pressed, the hammers move closer to the strings, reducing the volume by engaging only one string per key instead of three. On an upright piano, the mechanism is slightly different: when the soft pedal is pressed, it moves the action closer to the keyboard, and the hammers
