Hear Friko cover My Bloody Valentine’s “When You Sleep”

In February, Friko released their ambitious debut album, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, and today the indie-rock duo are back with an expanded edition of that LP.

The record features a couple of demos from the Where we’ve been, Where we go from here sessions, live songs from a sold-out hometown show at Metro this past spring, bonus tracks, and a cover of My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless standout “When You Sleep.” The latter goes back to 2020 when the band recorded it on a 4-track and sprinkled the song in their setlists over the years, so it’s nice to see the shoegaze cut resurface officially.

“‘If I Am,’ along with the rest of the other new songs on this expanded edition, go back as far as 2019,” Friko say. “They were some of the first songs we played at DIY and small club shows in Chicago. They kind of got left behind after we had written the songs for the record, but we’re so glad they’re getting to see the light of day because they were some of the first songs we wrote as a band.”
