HotWax are barely out of their teens, but the punk trio have been ripping it up onstage for years. Having opened for Royal Blood, Frank Carter, and the Libertines, the band are barrelling into the new year with their debut album, Hot Shock, which arrives March 7 via Marathon Artists.

Made with Catherine Marks, Steph Marziano, and Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, Hot Shock documents their ascent. The songs were recorded live to capture their scrappy energy, meant to “feel like a party.” But though Tallulah Sim-Savage, Lola Sam, and Alfie Sayers cite L7, Hole, and Black Flag as influences, their restless urgency always sounds harmonious. That can be heard on their latest single, “Wanna Be A Doll,” premiering below, where their signature rattle moves into a grimier swirl as Sim-Savage points out her less desirable traits from someone else’s POV.

“[This] is the first song we wrote for the album,” HotWax exclusively tell AP. “It’s an honest admittance of myself in a past relationship from a third-person perspective. The video is a poignant collection of clips that exude feelings of freedom, happiness, and reassurance, yet all with a heavy dark tint clouded over the top that portrays feelings of guilt and sadness.”
