Timothée Chalamet stars as Bob Dylan in the forthcoming biopic A Complete Unknown and also does his own singing in the film, which hits theaters on Christmas (Dec. 25). The first two fruits of his labor are out now ahead of the Dec. 25 release of the Columbia soundtrack, in the form of “Girl From the North Country” and “Like a Rolling Stone.”

The former is a duet between Chalamet and actress Monica Barbaro, who portrays Joan Baez in the film. While the real-life artists never recorded the track together, it first appeared on Dylan’s 1963 album The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan and was eventually remade with Johnny Cash for the 1969 LP Nashville Skyline.

The full track list has yet to be announced for the soundtrack, which will be released in limited-edition vinyl form in late January. A Complete Unknown also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.

“To me, there was only one way to make this film — to cast actors that are profoundly talented, ambitious (and brave enough!) to inhabit the whole of the artists they would portray,” says director James Mangold. “And in order to inhabit that world those artists had to be able to sing the songs.. We were never out to replace the power, beauty and majesty of what exists, but rather, to celebrate it.”

The 83-year-old Dylan has recently begun posting on X, and earlier this week wrote, “Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.” In response, Chalamet gushed, “Floored. I am so grateful. Thank you Bob.”
