On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Hot Tuna livened The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., with acoustic stylings emulating from Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. The occasion began with a rendition of “What Are They Doing in Heaven Today,” a well-mastered live feature, before inviting their guest, trumpeter Steven Bernstein, up for the first in a series of sit-ins, including original numbers like “Great Divide” and The Phosphorescent Rat’s “Day to Day Out The Window Blues.”

A mixed batch of covers and originals peppered the night’s initial half, with assistance from Bernstein, who stuck around for set two. During the latter frame, the musicians tapped into their roots with material front their Jefferson Airplane days, “Good Shepard,” and Kaukonen classics, “Been So Long,” “Ice Age,” and more.

For the final song of their Port Chester stand, the combined lineup of Kaukonen, Casady, Bernstein, and drummer Justin Gripp reprised 1972’s Burgers feature, the Hot Tuna standout, “Water Song.” The longtime pair will continue their acoustic run tomorrow night, Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Infinity Hall in Hartford, Conn.
