How Grammys & Other Awards Shows Are Pivoting Amid Devastating LA Fires
As wildfires continue to threaten Los Angeles and surrounding areas, organizers behind awards shows and related events are figuring out how to pivot to best support the community. Should they move forward and become fundraisers for relief efforts? Or is it best to cancel or postpone to a later date?
On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, we’re talking about what we know so far, with the Oscar nominations announcement being postponed to next week and going virtual; the Critics’ Choice Awards pushing to Jan. 26 (for now); and the Grammys announcing plans to stick with its original Feb. 2 broadcast date (again, for now), with a renewed focus on raising money for wildfire relief efforts. Since we recorded the podcast, The Weeknd delayed his Hurry Up Tomorrow album to Jan. 31 and canceled his planned Rose Bowl promo concert, while Beyoncé delayed her Jan. 14 announcement to a later date.

Also on the show, we’ve got chart news on how Lil Baby and Bad Bunny arrive in the top two on the Billboard 200 with their latest albums, how Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” holds tight at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, and how Sabrina Carpenter claims her sixth consecutive (and total) top 10 on the Pop Airplay chart with “Bed Chem.”
The Billboard Pop Shop Podcast is your one-stop shop for all things pop on Billboard‘s weekly charts. You can always count on a lively discussion about the latest pop news, fun chart stats and stories, new music, and guest interviews with music stars and folks from the world of pop. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard‘s executive digital director, West Coast, Katie Atkinson and Billboard’s managing director, charts and data operations, Keith Caulfield every week on the podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcast provider.
