English musician Hugh Cornwell, best known for his role as frontman of The Stranglers, has announced his Australian tour for August this year.

The tour will begin at Sydney’s Great Club on Thursday, 1st August, followed by Melbourne’s The Croxton on Saturday, 3rd August, and conclude at Perth’s Rosemount on Saturday, 10th August.

Hugh Cornwell – ‘When I Was a Young Man’

Hugh Cornwell, frontman of the Stranglers, was born in 1949 in North London. He started making music in high school and later studied biochemistry at Bristol University. In Stockholm, he formed Johnny Sox, which evolved into The Stranglers. The band stood out in the punk scene for its clever and diverse music.

Cornwell’s solo career began in 1979 with “Nosferatu,” inspired by a silent film. After leaving The Stranglers in 1990, he released albums, including Wolf and Monster, which were often recorded with a simple power trio setup.

In the 2010s, he released Totem and Tattoo and collaborated with punk poet John Cooper Clarke on This Time It’s Personal. He also wrote books, showcasing his diverse talents and remained an influential figure in punk and rock music.
