J Balvin Pulls ‘Perra’ Video Following Backlash

J Balvin has pulled his ‘Perra’ video following a backlash.

The track features on his recent album ‘Jose’, and finds J Balvin linking up alongside Tokischa.

The video went online earlier this month, and showed Black women as dogs, with some on leashes.

Sparkling a massive backlash, at one point Balvin’s own mother got involved, telling Colombian news station Cosmovisión: “That song is not … I don’t even know what to say. I did not see my José anywhere.”

Now J Balvin has pulled the video from YouTube, offering an apology to “whomever felt offended, especially to the Black community” in the process.

Speaking on IG stories, he said: “I want to say sorry to whomever felt offended, especially to the Black community. That’s not who I am. I’m about tolerance, love and inclusivity.”

Tokischa seemed to defend the video when chatting to Rolling Stone, commenting: “It was very conceptual. If you, as a creative, have a song that’s talking about dogs, you’re going to create that world…”

Raymi Paulus – who directed the video – sent in a pre-prepared statement:

The Dominican Republic is a country where most of the population is Black and our Blackness is predominant in underground scenes, where the filming took place, and which was the subject of the video’s inspiration. ‘Perra’ was a video filmed in the neighborhood, with people from the neighborhood, and the use of people of color in ‘Perra’ was nothing more than the participation of our people in it.
