American musician James Kottak, better known for his role as a drummer with Scorpions and Kingdom Come, passed away in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday, 9th January. He was 61, and the cause of his death remains undisclosed.

The band Scorpions took to their Facebook to post a tribute “Very sad news … our dear friend and Drummer for 20 years James Kottak has passed at the age of 61,” They continued. “James was a wonderful human being , a great musician and loving family man … he was our Brother from another Mother and will be truly missed . … Rock ‘n Roll Forever. RIP James.”


James Kottak also played with other major bands like Buster Brown, Warrant, The Cult and many more

James Kottak’s rhythmic beats defined the sound of Scorpions for two decades, as he held the drumsticks from 1996 to 2016, becoming the longest-serving member of the renowned German rock band. During his tenure, Scorpions produced timeless hits such as “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” “Still Loving You” and “Believe in Love” leaving an indelible mark on the rock ‘n roll landscape.

Apart from his time with Scorpions, James Kottak showcased his drumming skills with various bands, including hard rockers Kingdom Come, glam metal group Warrant, Buster Brown, English rock band The Cult, and his punk rock ensemble, Kottak.
