Over the weekend, Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew’s Remain in Light project, featuring members of Cool Cool Cool, took part in their New Year’s Eve run. During the ensemble’s second stop, at City National Grove on Anaheim in Anaheim, Calif., on Dec. 29, they welcomed Tool drummer Danny Carey, who added a backbeat during a cover of King Crimson’s “Thela Hun Ginjeet.”

The unannounced appearance occurred after the billed performers ran through various material from Talking Heads’ 1980 LP, Remain in Light, and other selects, such as Harrison’s 1988 Casual Gods cut. “Rev It Up.” During the halfway point of the main frame, Carey showed up and added to King Crimson’s “Thela Hun Ginjeet.”

Notable, the King Crimson number nodded toward Belew’s history with the English prog-rock band, serving as a member during two cycles: 1981-1984 and 1994-2008. With Carey behind the kit and some added commentary from the band leaders, the staged players broke into a drum-heavy display of 1981’s Discipline originator.
