Jimmy Iovine Sexual Assault Lawsuit Dropped by Jane Doe Plaintiff
An anonymous woman who sued Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine for sexual assault and battery has dropped her lawsuit.
The unidentified woman who sued Jimmy Iovine for sexual assault and battery has dropped her lawsuit against the Interscope Records co-founder. According to a lawyer representing the woman, as of Thursday (February 15), the case is “discontinued in its entirety with prejudice,” which means it cannot be refiled in the future.
Douglas Wigdor, a lawyer for the anonymous woman, said in a statement that “the matter was resolved to the satisfaction of the parties.” Whether a settlement was reached is unknown.
Jimmy Iovine founded Interscope Records and served as chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M under Universal Music Group. He launched Beats Music in 2014, and has been mostly retired since 2018.
The anonymous woman sued Jimmy Iovine in November for assault, battery, and violations of New York State’s gender-motivated violence and human rights laws. She alleged she had been “sexually abused, forcibly touched, and subjected to sexual harassment and retaliation” by Iovine in August 2007 while working with Interscope.
Notably, only the summons was filed, with lawyers for the accuser saying that a complaint would be filed, though it appears that filing never took place. The woman’s desire to remain anonymous may have created issues; in December, the judge overseeing the case denied a motion to allow her to continue with the suit anonymously because of “the lack of an affidavit of service.”
The case was brought about under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which extended the window for an additional year for survivors of sexual misconduct to submit their claims. Plaintiffs who would typically have been unable to sue due to the statute of limitations have taken advantage of the extension, filing lawsuits against such high-profile music industry figures as Sean “Diddy” Combs, former Epic Records exec L.A. Reid, and ex-Grammy CEO Neil Portnow.
