Jorma Kaukonen and Jackson Browne Deliver Legendary Performance with Friends at ‘The Capitol Sessions’

On Friday, Jackson Browne and Jorma Kaukonen turned out for an all-star performance at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. ‘The Capitol Sessions: Songs from a Rock Palace That Impacted the World’ benefited the voter registration organization HeadCount.

The evening featured a variety of covers in celebration of the venues storied past, including favorites by the Grateful Dead, Traffic, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and more.

The show began when Capitol Sessions musical director Larry Campbell took the stage with his wife, Teresa Williams, for a cover of “Samson & Delilah.” 

Longtime vocalist for The Rolling Stones, Lisa Fischer, performed The Chamber Brothers’ “Time Has Come Today” followed by a cover of The Impressions’ “Get Ready” with support from Jackson Browne. 

Evening highlights included Amy Helm and Steely Dan touring guitarist, Connor Kennedy covering John Prine’s “Angles From Montgomery,” Marco Benevento and Karina Rykman joined in on Leon Russell’s “Out In The Woods,” Larry Campbell lent lead vocals during Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” and Trey Anastasio Band saxophonist James Casey performed the soul classic, “Express Yourself.”

James Casey, Grahame Lesh, Eric Krasno, Marco Benevento, and more joined in for a set of Grateful Dead covers, which included “Shakedown Street,” “Deal” and “Brokedown Palace.” Jorma Kaukonen, vocalist Teresa Williams, and Larry Campbell then took the stage for “Sugaree” and Hot Tuna’s “Hesitation Blues,” followed by a homage to Jefferson Airplanes with covers of “White Rabbit” and Somebody to Love.”

The evening closed out with a Lisa Fisher-led “Wild Horses” and “Gimme Shelter” before Jackson Browne returned for “Doctor My Eyes” and “Running on Empty,” followed by a proper encore of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends.”
