Kimberly Cole Unveils the Mesmerizing “BLOODY MARY” Video: A Dazzling Display of Artistry, Emotion, and Roller Skating Mastery
Billboard-charting singer, songwriter, filmmaker, and champion artistic roller skater Kimberly Cole has launched her latest project: the electrifying video for her new single, “BLOODY MARY.” Renowned for her innovative approach, Cole seamlessly integrates her music with the stunning athleticism of artistic roller skating, creating a captivating visual experience that explores themes of self-reflection, resilience, and artistic fulfillment. Reflecting on her artistry.
“BLOODY MARY” is a collaborative effort between Cole and acclaimed producer Jeeve Ducornet, her long-time creative partner and Goldie. The track encapsulates Cole’s deeply personal journey, serving as a powerful confession of self-acceptance and emotional release. Set in Cole’s home studio loft in Universal City, the writing and recording session was as liberating as it was fun, with the team sipping Bloody Marys while confronting personal demons. “This song is a confession to myself,” Kimberly explains. “A come-to-Jesus moment, a wake-up call to finally be honest with myself.”
Filmed in a weathered downtown Los Angeles warehouse, the “BLOODY MARY” video embodies Kimberly’s artistic vision, featuring her longtime collaborator and former coach, world champion artistic roller skater Trey Knight. “My beautiful Trey Knight is my skating partner and collaborator in this video. Our story goes way, way back. He’s a world champion artistic roller skater and used to be my coach. He also used to design my costumes when I was a little girl,” Kimberly says. Their partnership reflects a deep connection to the art form, having evolved from coach and student to creative collaborators. The duo’s performance artfully melds emotion with physical prowess, illustrating the song’s themes of self-confrontation and acceptance. “To be able to get lost in art with him in this piece felt like a full circle moment. I may not have been competing in a competition shooting that video, but we were competing with ourselves that day.
The video showcases Kimberly’s impressive roller-skating skills, highlighting the intense athleticism and dedication required to perform at her level. Her journey in the sport is deeply personal: “I spent the last five years doing a documentary in collaboration with John Legend’s ‘Get Lifted Film Company.’ It was such an honor to be able to create with Get Lifted,” Kimberly says. “I really dive into the question of why me and my fellow athletes gravitated towards this mostly unknown, misfit, mesmerizing sport; it felt like the skating path to nowhere, but for us was the journey to ourselves.” The documentary, titled Blood, Sweat, and Wheels, delves into the underground culture of artistic roller skating, advocating for its recognition in the Olympic arena. Kimberly adds, “Artistic roller skating is more than just a night at your local roller rink. It’s a whole underground sports telenovela. As silly as it sounds, I will stop at nothing to get this sport recognized as an Olympic sport. These athletes need to be heard.”
“Blood, Sweat, and Wheels” promises to be a compelling exploration of a sport filled with secret superstar athletes that lacks the allure of Olympic gold or multimillion-dollar contracts but thrives on the passion, perseverance, and artistry of its athletes. The documentary will offer a rare glimpse into the lives of several top athletes and a subculture on wheels hidden from the world.
Kimberly Cole’s deep personal connection to the sport as a former roller figure skating champion and artist infuses the project with authenticity and athletic insight. Her journey, marked by a relentless and spirited drive ignited in her teens, demonstrates how roller skating gave her purpose, camaraderie, and a sense of normalcy in a world that was far from it. “Skating gave me purpose, a sense of belonging, and insulated me from the life I led outside of the rink. it was my secret athletic hideout, and it was something nobody could take from me,” Cole reflects. “This unknown sport saved me and my fellow competitors. I will stop at nothing to get it recognized as an Olympic sport.”
With the release of “BLOODY MARY,” Kimberly Cole cements her reputation as an innovator who fuses music, visual storytelling, and athletic artistry, inviting audiences to engage with the vibrant subculture of artistic roller skating. “I hope to once and for all show that this misunderstood ‘stepchild of ice skating’ should be inducted and recognized as an Olympic sanctioned sport and give these athletes the voice and the world stage that they desperately deserve,” she says.
