LCD Soundsystem released a statement saying that after some conversation and consideration about the COVID-19 surge New York City is experiencing they will not cancel the remaining dates for the residency at the Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn. N.Y. The statement was posted on the evening of Friday, Dec. 17 and addressed the performances set to take place on Dec. 19, 20 and 21.

The band noted that regardless of what they did fans would be upset, and that after looking at ticket sales they noticed many people bought tickets from out of state and are traveling to see them. “we said we would play, and people are coming, so we are playing” wrote the band. They also stated that the show going on is by no means an indicator of safety and that “[fans] need to make your own decisions as to whether you feel safe coming to see us.”

LCD Soundsystem added that if fans don’t feel safe coming they can get a full refund for the show at the point of purchase, and that if enough people did ask for refunds they would reschedule the shows. They added that they will play again so fans shouldn’t worry about not seeing these particular shows at this time.

On the same evening as the post, Friday, Dec. 17, New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the state saw more than 21,000 new cases of COVID-19 within a single day with over 10,286 of those in New York City.
