Hot on the heels of the announcement of their farewell tour, Los Angeles’ Porno for Pyros have released their first new song in 26 years, “Agua.” According to the band, the song was inspired by chance encounters they had with dolphins while surfing in the ’90s, saying the song is “an ode to the sea and all its beautiful creatures” and their environmental concerns.

Furthering their connection to the core of the song, Porno for Pyros have joined forces with the Surfrider Foundation to rally people to protect the coasts for future generations. The Surfrider Foundation has fought for the ocean — for plastic reduction, clean water, ocean protection and climate action for 39 years.

“The people who live here on the West Coast have a beautiful love and passion for the Pacific Ocean,” Perry Farrell said. “The ocean doesn’t look right, doesn’t feel right, doesn’t surf right. You go and swim in it, and you get the creeps. The sunsets are different. We are really, really screwing it up. We have to do something about it. I wanted to bring attention to it through the best megaphone that I know, which is music.”

Notably, the song was originally written for their second LP 1996’s Good God’s Urge, and went unrecorded at the time. After reuniting for a few shows in 2022 including a huge performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago, the group recorded “Agua” among other songs. The songs from the sessions will be heard on a forthcoming EP set to be released in 2024 ahead of the band’s tour.

Porno for Pyros — featuring Jane’s Addiction’s Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins along with bassist Martyn LeNoble and guitarist Peter DiStefano— will set out on their farewell tour in February 2024. Learn more about their farewell tour here.
