Today, Jan. 10, The War And Treaty continue to build anticipation for their forthcoming fifth studio album with another stirring preview single. On “Save Me,” the massively acclaimed vocal powerhouse duo of Michael and Tanya Trotter deliver a performance on par with their inimitable standard, meeting in rich harmonies that propel a deeply stirring love ballad. The track arrives as the sixth preview of Plus One, a collection of 18 affecting and affectionate reflections on hope, healing and their connection, set to release via Mercury Nashville on Valentine’s Day.

“Save Me” is another shining example of The War And Treaty’s singular brand of country soul and the intricate influences stitched through it. Over a softly swaying guitar and piano ramble, Michael and Tanya issue soul-searching verses on wounded hearts before erupting into a shared chorus on the redemptive power of love. The track’s lyrics, which were co-written by the married couple alongside 15 others (while Michael helmed the remaining two), are infectious and joyful, translating the devotional character of their gospel background into an ode to finding salvation in each other. Watch the artists bare their souls in the official music video below.

“What you’re hearing on this record are the different styles of our love,” Michael shared on the depth of sounds heard throughout Plus One in an interview for the January-February issue of Relix. “Sometimes our love sounds like the sacredness of gospel. Sometimes it’s the passionate lovemaking of R&B. Sometimes it’s like the emergency of a soul song. Sometimes it’s the storytelling of a country song, three chords and the truth. Sometimes our love feels jazzy. And sometimes it’s the story of the blues, it’s heartbreak and pain. It’s all us.”

“I was very mindful of this, once we started getting recognition,” Tanya said of the incredible journey that has earned The War And Treaty tremendous critical reception and such distinctions as Americana Music Awards for Emerging Artist of the Year and Duo/Group of the Year (twice) and a Best American Roots Song Grammy nomination for 2023’s “Blank Page.” “My mother was a first-generation American from Panama. Michael served his country. For us to be able to do this and be acknowledged by these longstanding organizations, who were not welcoming to people that look like us, is absolutely astonishing.

“I’m totally in the moment, understanding what is happening,” she reflected. “Tomorrow is not promised. We have children, and we want to leave this legacy for them.” With Plus One, expected on Feb. 14, the pair have crafted a double album that stunningly captures the depths of their character and guarantees their place among Americana’s most vital voices for the future.

Plus One is available to pre-order and pre-save now. Listen to “Save Me” here, and read on for the album’s tracklist and complete itinerary for the duo’s 2025 tour.
