Listen to Ela Minus’ apocalyptic new single ‘QQQQ’
Ela Minus has shared a new single called ‘QQQQ’ – you can listen to it below.
The song serves as the final preview of the Colombian singer-songwriter and producer’s second album ‘DIA’, which is released this Friday (January 17) via Domino. Pre-order/pre-save it here.
‘QQQQ’ – pronounced “Q” – is described as “a throbbing and mighty dance track for the end of the world”. The apocalyptic track sees Minus sing over huge synth pads and glitchy keys with a distorted, phone line-style vocal.
“Lately I’ve been feeling/ That we are all agreeing/ This is the end / But if we are going to give up/ Might as well end it here / Let the world end now,” she reflects, signalling impending doom. Tune in here:
‘QQQQ’ follows on from the singles ‘BROKEN’ and ‘COMBAT’, both of which arrived in 2024. The imminent ‘DIA’ comes after Minus’ 2020 debut full-length record, ‘Acts Of Rebellion’.
The musician’s second LP is promised to be a “rarified feat in electronic music, where cutting-edge production and space-shuddering sonics meet a burgeoning singer-songwriter’s real sense of self-reflection and private reckoning”.
‘DIA’ has been described as “both introspective and expansive, the wide sweep of its songs revealing more of Ela as person and producer than ever before”.
Speaking about the project, Minus explained: “‘ABRIR MONTE’ is a phrase commonly used where I’m from, referring to the act of opening paths through dense foliage. I’ve always loved the poetry of it. That is what making this record felt like, opening new paths inward and outward, continuing to delve further through unexplored territory.”
Minus is set to play a solo headline show at Oslo in London on February 20, before returning to the UK for this summer’s End Of The Road. She’ll also join Caribou on their 2025 UK and European tour, including a trio of shows at the Roundhouse in Camden Town.
In a five-star review of ‘Acts Of Rebellion’, NME described the album as a collection of “protest-techno with a DIY punk spirit”.
