The estate of the late Mac Miller have announced the upcoming release of his 2014 unreleased album, ‘Balloonerism’ – find out more below.

Miller sadly died in September of 2018 following an accidental overdose, aged 26. Four years before that, he had worked on an album, ‘Balloonerism’, that never got released. Now, that’s about to change according to his family.

In a new post on social media, his family announced that ‘Balloonerism’ will arrive on January 17 next year, 11 years after it was “created around the time of the release of ‘Faces’”. The album is now available for pre-order.

They wrote: “It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm – to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately ‘GO:OD AM’ and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.”

His estate continued: “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing ‘Balloonerism’ was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”

The second slide of the post includes artwork for the upcoming posthumous release.

‘Balloonerism’ will mark the second posthumous album to be released by Miller’s estate following 2020’s ‘Circles‘.

In a four-star review of ‘Circles’, Will Lavin wrote for NME: “Overall, ’Circles’ is a very conflicting listen. It’s a high-quality project, but we lost Mac way too soon, and that’s hard to accept. So while it’s hard to listen to him talking about self-deterioration and how he spends far too much time in his own head, it’s a privilege to hear him share his inner most thoughts over a bed of sweeping, inventive sonics. This is the album Mac Miller was born to make.”
