Megadeth Are Teasing A New Album
Megadeth are back in the studio, working on their 17th studio album.
The thrash legends’ leader Dave Mustaine has updated fans in a chat on on X Spaces, revealing that the follow up to their 2022 LP The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! is currently in the pipeline.
Megadeth – ‘Killing Time: Chapter V’
“Right now I’m in the studio working with Chris Rakestraw,” Mustaine tweeted, referring to the producer, mixer and engineer who previously worked on Megadeth’s last two albums, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! and 2016’s Dystopia. “And everybody else is gone. Teemu [Mäntysaari, guitars] is in Switzerland and James [LoMenzo, bass] and Dirk [Verbeuren, drums] are in Los Angeles. So it’s just me here by myself with Chris.”
He continued: “It’s only a matter of a couple weeks before everybody converges on to the studio. And for that I’m pumped. And you guys are gonna be excited.”
Regarding what it’s been like being back in the studio, Dave added: “It’s been frustrating, because I wanna be farther along than I am right now. But that’s quite all right.
“When you write original music, you’ve always gotta start at the first step,” he explained. “And that’s what I’ve been doing my whole career. So, before we did this, I had all four of us listen to the entire catalog — every single song; 205 songs — and I wanted to make sure they knew chord progressions, lyric patterns, all kinds of stuff like that, so that they would hear tempos and starts and stops and everything to help them be able to songwrite and contribute also.”
It follows a number of remote writing sessions between Mustaine and new guitarist Mäntysaari, who will be making his studio debut with Megadeth on this forthcoming LP after replacing former axeman Kiko Loureiro.
“I feel really good about the album,” Mäntysaari said in a previous interview (via Metal Injection). “We have already so many good ideas. I think it’s gonna be a great one.”
Megadeth last toured Australia as part of the Knotfest Australia lineup in 2023.
We’ll keep you updated with any new developments on Megadeth’s next album as soon as we hear about them!
