On Monday, Dec. 9, moe. touched down south of the border for its headline set at The Mexico Incident, The String Cheese Incident’s latest international music getaway. For their first-ever concert in Mexico, the jam forerunners celebrated the occasion with a top-tier performance lined with special guests and surprises, including sit-ins from cosmic country guitar dynamo Daniel Donato and storied SCI percussionist Jason Hann. After the show, the band continued to elaborate the celebration of its 35th year with four further 2025 tour dates, tacking a Southeast sprint on the end of its winter and spring tour.
Appropriately enough, moe. took the stage for its first performance at Puerto Morelos, Mexico’s Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa with “Mexico,” the longtime fan favorite drawn from the band’s 1993 debut album Headseed. As a special tribute to their hosts, the group revived that track’s “Badges” tag (winking at the classic line from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre) by welcoming a resort waiter named Alfredo to call out the tag, then sing a few lines of a canción with his stunning tenor. Following the first track, the band proceeded with “Yellow Tigers” and a medley of “Puebla” and “Silver Sun,” then set up a bold, far-reaching take on “Plane Crash.”
To conclude their performance, moe. invited Donato and Hann to join them in the rain for a towering full band treatment of the Allman Brothers Band’s “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” After the explosive finale, the band performed a late night palapa set on Tuesday, Dec. 11. During that intimate festival closer, the group tapped Hann again for “Buster,” then hosted artists-at-large Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman to perform The Band’s Ophelia.
moe. will return to the stage in 2025 to set off its Circle of Giants tour with a pair of performances at Woodstock, N.Y.’s newly renovated Bearsville Theater on Jan. 17 and 18. The band will release its highly anticipated 14th studio album on Jan. 31, then take the celebration on the road for a total of 26 further headline tour dates. moe. extended this run yesterday with a four-stop Southeast leg, which will bring it to Columbia, S.C., Jacksonville, Fla., St. Petersburg, Fla. and Miami on March 12-15.
