Mushroom Group turns up the dial on its half-century celebrations with a free-to-air broadcast arrangement a bunch of additional performances – both in the room and beamed in from abroad.

Set for Sunday, Nov. 26 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Mushroom 50 Live will air across Australia exclusively on Channel 7 and 7plus from 7:00pm, organisers announced Tuesday (Nov. 14).

International stars alt-J, Ed Sheeran and Garbage, all of whom have strong, deep connections with Mushroom Group, will deliver exclusive recorded performances to air during the broadcast and on screen.

Also joining the party will be Youth Group, who’ll share a recorded performance of their hit cover of Alphaville’s “Forever Young,” joined by Budjerah, Mia Wray and British pop star Sam Smith.

Politically active ‘70s and ’80s Aussie act Goanna, whose “Solid Rock” resonates to this day, joins the lineup with four of the original members, while three hotly-tipped Mushroom acts are added to the bill: WILSN, Lotte Gallagher and Logan.

“Mushroom 50 Live has been years in the making and our team has pulled together something truly special, that we’re all proud of,” comments Mushroom Group CEO Matt Gudinski, “and we’re thrilled to partner with the Seven Network to bring this once-in-a-lifetime concert to living rooms right across the country.”

With the latest line-up announcement, the total number of artists involved in Mushroom 50 Live lifts to 34. Reps say more artists and a “cast of celebrity hosts” are yet to be revealed.

Mushroom 50 Live is the culmination of a year-long procession of birthday treats, which have included the release of a series of reimagined singles, featuring stars covering Mushroom classics; retro merch; and the theatrical release of Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story.

Billed as “50 Songs for 50 Years”, the celebration is a partnership with Telstra and ALWAYS LIVE, the state-wide celebration of contemporary live music supported by the Victoria Government through Visit Victoria, and the brainchild of the late Mushroom Group founder and chairman, Michael Gudinski.
