Music at the Intersection Unveils 2024 Artist Lineup: Chaka Khan, Black Pumas, Lettuce, Trombone Shorty and More

Music at the Intersection has unveiled the full artist lineup for its 2024 presentation, set to stage at St. Louis’ Grand Center Arts District on Sept. 14 and 15. This fourth annual festival will feature headliners Black Pumas, Chaka Khan, Big Boi, Lettuce and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, alongside a litany of artists from the worlds of R&B, funk, jazz, hip-hop and everything in between. Music at the Intersection’s eclectic host of performers aims to honor the diverse artistic culture and history of St. Louis, drawing on both local legends and national acts with shared musical roots to chart the sonic legacy that has led to the city’s unique sound.

Music at the Intersection’s 2024 schedule boasts over fifty acts, to be distributed across four stages throughout the green spaces and urban centers of the Grand Center Arts District campus. On Saturday, September 14, Grammy-nominated psychedelic soul duo Black Pumas, legendary Southern hip-hop innovator Big Boi and renowned funk sextet Lettuce will lead a bill of 25 acts; other featured artists include Cimafunk, Lady Wray, Jordan Ward, Joe Russo’s Selcouth Quartet and Chingy, a St. Louis native and icon of early-aughts Dirty South hip hop.

On Sunday, unquestioned funk queen Khan, NOLA figureheads Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, five-time Grammy-winning jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding and jazz vocal virtuoso Samara Joy will close out the festival. 18 performances will precede these headliners, including Robert Randolph Band, Stanley Clarke Band and Keyon Harold, another local legend who will present his 2023 album Foreverland with surprise special guests. Harold, returning for his fourth presentation, has been minted as the first-ever artist-in-residence. Harold’s role in the programming committee inspired the selection of Black Pumas, Cimafunk and Trombone Shorty, all of whom have numbered among the genre-bending jazz trumpeter’s many collaborators.

On his new position, Harold has shared, “As the first Artist-in-Residence, I am honored to be an ambassador and liaison of the rich musical roots and culture of the St. Louis and Midwest region. I can’t wait to welcome incredible talents from all over the world to my beloved hometown and witness the melting pot of culture and creativity that the Music at the Intersection festival is known for. I am confident that the visionary team led by the Kranzbergs and Chris Hansen will continue to explore and push the boundaries of multidisciplinary art and dopeness. The future of this festival is bright, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
