My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way voices new ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ pinball machine

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is among the voice cast for a new Dungeons & Dragons pinball machine – check out the video below.

The singer-songwriter, comic book writer and The Umbrella Academy creator – who is a longtime D&D fan – joined the likes of Dethklok’s Brendon Small, and filmmakers Kevin Smith and Chris Prynoski in contributing to the arcade game.

Composer Chris Velasco (Bloodborne, Mass Effect 2) created the music for the new machine, which is officially called Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye.

Per a description, the game will see players become “chosen members of the Dragonshield Guild, trying to defeat the dragon queen Tiamat, who is hatching a plan to rise again, triggering the War of Dragons, with Xanathar, Balinor and Sammaster all fighting for power”.

It added: “Players will experience the game’s fantasy world under the glass, fusing pinball with the iconic franchise like never before.”

The description continued: “Enjoy mysterious and exciting features by navigating through hidden passageways, experience an electromagnet-powered gelatinous cube that freezes the pinball, and explore dynamic dungeon levels that are accessed through a disappearing playfield trap door.

“Other features include Fizmo’s store that allows players to acquire unique items, a treasure chest that unleashes mimic monsters, and more secrets to uncover.” You can find more information here, and watch a preview video above.

Way has previously expressed his love for Dungeons & Dragons on social media. In 2020, the MCR singer shared images of himself playing D&D with his friends and family over Zoom in lockdown.

During an interview with Time Out in 2015, he explained: “I always played a half-elven ranger. I like rangers – they can track things down and use a bow (via Rock Sound).

“It was always hard finding clerics though: to find a friend of yours that’d want to play a guy with a mace that healed people. That was very hard.”

Last October saw the band perform the record in full for the first time since 2007 at When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas.

The group’s latest material was 2022’s ‘The Foundations of Decay’ – a surprise single that marked their first new release in eight years, with their last full-length album being 2010’s ‘Danger Days’.

In other news, My Chemical Romance recently paid tribute to their former drummer Bob Bryar, who died last November aged 44. Guitarist Frank Iero later reflected on his relationship with the late musician, saying: “I don’t think I ever got to tell him I was sorry.”
