New Led Zeppelin documentary ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ is coming to IMAX in 2025

Led Zeppelin‘s long awaited documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin is coming to IMAX cinemas in 2025.

The authorised film, which was first announced in 2019, was acquired for a cinema release by Sony Classics Pictures in a number of countries earlier this year.

The documentary features new interviews with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant, as well as rare archival interviews with the late John Bonham, who died in 1980.

Now, it has been announced that over 200 cinemas will be screening the film in IMAX cinemas across the US and Canada on February 7 next year.

Ahead of that will also be a one night only early screening in 18 cinemas on February 5. Tickets for both are on sale now here. No word on a UK release in IMAX cinemas has yet been announced.

Director Bernard MacMahon said (via Blabbermouth): “The cinematic power of IMAX paired with the film’s authentic sound creates an immersive and transportive viewing experience letting audiences feel like they are there, in the venues with the band.”

“We spent five years flying back and forth across the Atlantic scouring attics and basements in pursuit of rare and unseen film footage, photographs and music recordings,” writer/producer Allison McGourty said. “Then we transferred each piece of media with custom techniques, so that in IMAX, these 55-year-old clips and music would look and sound like they came out of the lab yesterday.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with IMAX and Sony Pictures Classics to bring this film to big screens for all audiences, Zeppelin fans, of course, but also all music lovers and anyone looking for an inspiring, uplifting story with amazing music,” McGourty added.

Becoming Led Zeppelin is the first time that Led Zeppelin have participated in a documentary in 50 years, with the band granting MacMahon “unprecedented access” for the film.

A rough version of the documentary was premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021 but hasn’t been seen since.

Elsewhere, Page has unveiled a new EDS-1275 Doubleneck VOS custom guitar as part of his ongoing partnership with Gibson.
