Disney+ has announced the latest chapter in its deep dive into Beatlemania, outlining the next iteration: an all-new Martin Scorsese-produced, David Tedeschi-directed documentary, Beatles ‘64. The explorative deep dive will stream exclusively on the aforementioned streaming app, arriving on November 29, 2024, the Friday after Thanksgiving, an ideal opportunity to watch and learn about one of the world’s most celebrated acts during the start of the holiday season.
The forthcoming documentary centers around The Beatles’ initial US visit, their subsequent Feb. 7, 1964, arrival at New York City’s Kennedy Airport, met with mass fan hysteria, a wink at the following that the core four would amass during their sweeping American entry. The movie is comprised of previously unreleased footage of the band and their devoted fanatics and follows the trajectory of The Beatles’ debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, which dazzled more than 73 million viewers, cementing the group’s solid-gold status.
As an extension of the band’s experience, Beatles ‘64 will present fans with behind-the-scenes stories that aim to showcase the members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr’s individual experiences amidst a massive spike in popularity. Apart from the band’s notorious stop at The Ed Sullivan Show, Beatles ‘64 presents clips of the group’s first American concert at the Washington, D.C. Coliseum.
McCartney and Starr offer current-day interviews as an added layer of reflection and delineation of the overwhelming effect their American debut had on the band’s trajectory and their individual successes. In addition to Scorsese’s credit, Beatles ‘64 tapped Margaret Bodde, McCartney, Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, Mikaela Beardsley, Jeff Jones, and Rick Yorn as fellow producers, a culmination of family and band associates who are committed to doing justice to the lineage of The Beatles.
