NYC underground rap legend Max B confirms release date from prison
Underground rap legend Max B has confirmed when he will be released from prison next year.
The self-proclaimed Wavy God was originally sentenced to 75 years behind bars in 2009 for charges related to a 2006 burglary gone wrong. However, Max was able to have his sentence significantly reduced to 12 years in 2019 with time served – meaning he’ll be out sometime in 2025.
In a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the rapper called from prison to confirm he will “be out November 9 2025, baby”.
“This shit is almost over. Walking this thing down one day at a time, we keep on grinding. Everything good,” Max B said when asked how he is, adding: “The movement is on the way: we’re making America wavy again.”
When asked what his plans were once he’s out, Max B said: “Normally, a n**** in my circumstances with the amount of time I did would be taking his time, taking turtle steps – but not the Boss Don. I’m diving in head first.
“I can’t wait to get reacclimated and, here’s the thing: I’m a musical genius, so people have to get reacclimated with my shit. It’s gon’ be a challenge – I love a good challenge – but it’s for the game. I’m what the game’s been missing, baby. I’m a trendsetter so I’m back.”
The 46-year-old was also asked if he was looking forward to collaborating with anyone, to which he responded: “Listen, I’m not going to put myself in a box. There’s a lot of artists out there, too many to name.
“I’m looking forward to working with the big names, the head honchos. I’m not going to put myself in a box. I’m open for all that but they gotta be A-list. I’m fucking with A-list. If this shit ain’t A-list, I can’t fuck with it.”
Max B rose to fame in the mid-2000s for his melodic rap style – which he dubbed “wave” rap – influencing the likes of Kanye West, French Montana, Cardi B, Wiz Khalifa and more to take on a more sing-rap approach. He is best known for his affiliation with Dipset’s Jim Jones and his ByrdGang collective as a writer and artist.
Max’s career was halted after his involvement in a plan to rob two men at a Holiday Inn in New Jersey in September 2006, resulting in one of the men being shot dead.
He was convicted and initially charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and felony murder – resulting in a 75-year prison sentence. However, in 2016, his prior convictions were vacated after Max took a plea deal and pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter, reducing his sentence to 20 years. His sentence was further reduced to 12 years in 2019.
In November, TMZ reported that Max B’s discography would soon be arriving on digital streaming platforms for the first time in roughly 20 years.
