One More Saturday Night: Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros. Continue Capitol Theatre Residency with Dred Scott Sit-in

On Saturday night, Bobby Weir and Wolf Bros. continued their residency at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. Night four of five boasted a similar approach to their deliveries at the famed venue, with Weir stepping out solo for the first song, a cover of the Memphis Jug Band’s “K.C. Moan.” Don Was and Jay Lane came out next, offering a trio rendition of Jerry Garcia’s “Loser,” expanding once again with the arrival of Jeff Chimenti for “Mission in the Rain.”
From the aforementioned four-piece configuration, they added a fifth on “Mama Tried” and doubled to 10 players on the ensuing run-through of “Jackstraw.” Pulling from his RatDog catalog, Weir and company worked on “Two Djinn” before pairing “Lost Sailor” with “Saint of Circumstance.” A high point of the night occurred with the arrival of Dred Scott, who added piano on the final song of set one, a jammed-out take on “Deal.”
After a break from the stage, Weir started the latter portion of the concert with his Heaven Help the Fool originator, “Bombs Away.” Next, they paired “Truckin’” with Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Turn On Your Love Light.” After a pause, they picked up “Uncle John’s Band,” which ran over into “Supplication,” which heeded an “Uncle John’s Band Reprise.” From the fan favorite emerged the first notes of “Terrapin Station.”
The depths of Robert Hunter’s lyrical masterpiece birthed a reflective “Days Between.” Then, fittingly, they closed out the secondary frame with Ace classic, “One More Saturday Night,” a fitting nod to the day of the week. For the night’s encore, Weir and his band returned for a song-a-long, landing on the Grateful Dead’s favored send-off, “Ripple.”
