Phil Lesh Details 84th Birthday Celebration at The Capitol Theatre Featuring The “Q” and Friends Format

Phil Lesh has detailed plans for his 84th birthday celebration. Sticking with tradition, the founding member of the Grateful Dead will return to The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., for two waves of performances, beginning on March 4 and 6, with concerts billed to feature The “Q.” The latter series of shows will include the musician’s Friends lineup, and occur on March 13, 15 and 16.

During the initial birthday shows for the legacy bassist, he will once again share the stage with his longstanding Quintet lineup, featuring Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes, Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring, Dark Star Orchestra keyboardist Rob Barraco and drummer John Molo. Besides his extended tenure with the Grateful Dead, Lesh has performed with the regularly performed alongside The “Q,” with heightened appearances in the early aughts between 2000 and 2003.

After reuniting with The “Q,” Lesh will take a week off between his final foursome show on March 6 and the arrival of the initial Friends gig on March 13. At this time, the Friends lineup remains under wraps, with an announcement to come prior to the performances. Further strengthening his ties to the location, Lesh will jam into his 84th year on March 15, his birth date, before adding one final show to represent the conclusion of the celebration on March 16.

Notably, Lesh holds a special place in Port Chester, N.Y., having performed over 100 concerts at the legacy Capitol Theatre venue, a milestone he achieved during his 83rd birthday run at the venue. Included during the watershed concert were fellow performers Rick Mitarotonda, John Medeski, Grahame Lesh, Nicki Bluhm, the late James Casey, Katie Jacoby, and Molo.

Ticket pre-sale for Lesh’s 84th birthday run at The Capitol Theatre begins Monday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. E.T. Public on-sale will ensue on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. E.T.
