Punch Brothers Share Cover of “Orphan Annie”

The Punch Brothers have shared their cover of Norman Blake’s “Orphan Annie.” The track is set to be featured on the Brooklyn-made quintet’s upcoming Tony Rice tribute album, Hell On Chruch Street, which is set to release on Jan. 14.

The Punch Brothers announced back in September that Hell On Chruch Street would recreate the late illustrious Tony Rice’s entire album, Church Street Blues.

The band wrote in a press release, “No record (or musician) has had a greater impact on us, and we felt compelled to cover it in its entirety, with the objective of interacting with it in the same spirit of respect-fueled adventure that Tony brought to each of its pre-existing songs.”

The 1983 LP features Rice covering tracks by Bill Monroe, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan and more. The album also features two covers of renowned multi-instrumentalist, Norman Blake’s work, including 1972’s “Orphan Annie” which was featured on his debut album Home In Sulphur Springs.
