Real Estate to Play Rock N Roll Bingo at The Independent in San Francisco

On February 28, Real Estate will present a unique show titled Rock N Roll Bingo at San Francisco’s The Independent. The penultimate performance in an eight-show series celebrating the alternative haven’s 20th anniversary, Real Estate’s set will exhibit the indie rock innovators’ vast and varied discography with the same earnest wonder that has always made the group so special. With a set list to be determined by random chance and accentuated by playful directives for the band, fans can expect a show like none other and a fitting tribute to the now 15-year-old group as it prepares to release its sixth full-length album, Daniel.

Per The Independent’s show listing, Real Estate’s performance will begin like any other: the band will prepare a list of new tracks from their forthcoming album alongside familiar favorites. Each of these selections will then be assigned a corresponding ball in a classic bingo cage machine, set to start spinning as the band takes the stage and steer its song selection. Among the randomly selected standards, the group will intersperse some curve balls, including some all-new covers, shake-ups (ex: switch instruments!) and all the other surprises it can work up. This coy, spirited format could only come from Real Estate, which never lets its seemingly bottomless canon of hits get in the way of a good time for the band and the fans.

The quintessential quintet’s upcoming album Daniel, produced by Grammy-winning producer Daniel Tashian, has been described as classic Real Estate in new form. In preview tracks “Haunted World” and “Water Underground,” that searching, suburban ennui sound for which the group has become so renowned is presented with a new coat of Nashville shine, complete with pedal steel harmonics and tight pop-rock hooks. To support the new release, the band will head to Rough Trade NYC on Friday, Feb. 23, for a stripped-down, intimate performance and album signing in the band’s home city, then launch into an expansive North American tour through the end of March.
