Film AlUla constructs a cutting-edge recording studio, expanding its recently-launched state-of-the-art studio complex.

In the latest expansion by Saudi Arabia into the music business, the Royal Commission for AlUla’s film agency, Film AlUla, is now welcoming the music industry with construction of a state-of-the-art recording studio in its recently launched, impressively cutting-edge studio complex. Set to open in June, the recording studio will comprise 190 square meters of studio space, with a 47-square meter control room and two isolation boots, as well as catering facilities and a rack room.

The studio is designed to be a dynamic space to be used for individual artists, choirs, rehearsals for film work, music videos, orchestral work, and much more. Film AlUla worked closely with industry experts in designing the facilities, which will provide state-of-the-art audio and recording equipment. This development marks Film AlUla’s debut in the music sector, further underscoring its commitment to becoming a full-service, creative hub providing an unparalleled destination for creatives.

Following the launch of the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture, General Entertainment Authority and Music Commission, to oversee the development of the music sector within the region, the kingdom’s music scene has blossomed with everything from EDM to opera. Hosting concerts and festivals with local and internationally renowned artists, the region shows a growing and passionate community of music lovers.

AlUla is at the forefront of this development, hosting the Azimuth festival annually. In 2023, the festival saw artists like Peggy Gou, Jorja Smith, and Egyptian rock sensation Cairokee headlining. It is also home to Maraya, a multi-purpose venue that holds regular concerts from big names like Alicia Keys, Andrea Bocelli, and James Blunt.

“Following the successful launch of our film studios last year, we are continuing to stategically expand the complex and become a one-stop destination for creatives, with the recording studio being a natural next step in this vision,” said Charlene Deleon-Jones, Executive Director of Film AlUla. “We are delighted to welcome artists from June this year, who we have no doubt will be inspired by the magnificent surroundings and heritage that AlUla has to offer while making the most of our cutting-edge facilities to create magic.”

Film AlUla’s studio complex included a first-phase launch comprising two 26,000 square foot sound stages, as well as a production building housing hair and makeup rooms, wardrobe facilities, office spaces, boardrooms, and dressing rooms.

The complex also includes 15,400 square foot workshops for each stage, RV parking areas for each stage, an administration building, a sound recording studio, kitchen, and events space, as well as a 61,500 square foot back lot for additional temporary infrastructure and set builds.

The sound stages are 14 minutes from the Film AlUla Residence, the purpose-built crew quarters with 300 high-quality, fully furnished accommodation units, film-friendly office space for short and long-term stays, and a range of high-end and mid-range accommodation options.
