The JamBase Podcast Season Two Episodes

Season Three of The JamBase Podcast will launch early next month. While the team preps new episodes for the new season, there are dozens of past JBPC episodes available to stream while waiting for new episodes to drop.

Season two reintroduced themed interview segments that were set aside during the pandemic with keyboardist John Medeski taking a deep dive into “The Art Of Improvisation” and Eric D. Johnson of Fruit Bats returning to the podcast to recount the tale of his “Worst Show Ever.”

This episode highlights another recurring interview theme, “The Art Of The Setlist” which goes behind-the-scenes to examine how musicians prepare and plan before a show. You’ll hear Dave Schools talk about Widespread Panic’s evolving approach to writing setlist and the similarities and differences to what the Grateful Dead did during their career.

Also featured is guitarist Chuck Garvey, who recently returned to the live stage after suffering a stroke in 2021, from his 2020 interview when he talked about moe.’s system for setlist writing and how each member of the band handles their role in the process.

Another revisited “The Art Of The Setlist” interview is with Paul Hoffman and Anders Beck who explain how sometimes writing Greensky Bluegrass setlists is more “Battle Of The Setlist” than “The Art Of The Setlist.”

Stick around for the end of the episode as the team also revisits a “Tour Stories” segment with WSP drummer Duane Trucks and a “Reelin’ In The Years” segment with Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge that have connections to the late jam scene patriarch Col. Bruce Hampton.
