Over the years, The Robb Nash Project has been a leader in mental health. As both a charitable organization and band, the project helps young people wade through depression, anxiety, self-harm, and addiction — and now that purpose has been captured with a new documentary. If You’re Reading This… explores Nash’s own journey as well as the hundreds of people who’ve gotten vulnerable with him, sharing the rawest parts of themselves and their mental health. Nash has hundreds of names tattooed on his arms, taken from suicide notes he’s received from young people who attended his shows or saw YouTube clips. In return, some of them have the band’s lyrics inked on their bodies — a mutual relationship of acceptance, respect, and survival.

“I was trying to figure out what my role was because I’m not a counselor,” Nash explains. “I’m not a psychologist. But I’ve realized that you can have all the resources available for someone struggling, but if people aren’t ready to reach out for that help, it’s no use. I’m there to get the conversation started, to let people know that it’s OK to reach out for help.” By working closely with Kids Help Phone, Canadian Mental Health Association, and school counselors, Nash has made sure people can get the help they need.
