Selena Gomez has once again assured fans that despite her thriving acting career, her presence in music “isn’t going away”.

In a newly published cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez – who is currently focusing on acting through projects like Emilia Perez and Only Murders In The Building – touched on her music career. Speaking on what she hopes to accomplish professionally moving forward, Gomez hinted at a larger focus on the film and TV side of things.

“I think I’ve done just as much as I wanted to do in music,” she said. “It’s exciting because I feel like I haven’t even started in film and TV, even though I know I’ve been a part of some great projects and I’m really proud of them. I like that I have to earn my position, and I love storytelling. So, I’m excited to do more of that.”

When asked to elaborate on the music aspect of her career, Gomez explained: “Almost done. Music isn’t going away. I just set it down for a second.” She also added that she gets more “sanity” out of acting than she does from music because she doesn’t have to get personal all the time.

Previously speaking to NME‘s Alex Flood to promote her latest film Emilia Perez with Zoe Saldaña, she was asked for an update on new music. Her last album, ‘Rare‘, arrived in 2020.

When asked about a new album, Gomez replied: “Well, if I had one, I would love to talk about it. I think right now it’s been really nice focusing on this side of the playing field. We’ll see, you never know.”

Her Emilia Perez co-star Zoe Saldaña chimed in to add that she hopes Gomez continues to record and release music. Read NME‘s full chat with Gomez and Saldaña here.

In a three-star review of Emilia Perez, Sophia Butcher wrote for NME: “You’ve probably never seen a movie like Emilia Perez before – and whilst there is enough meat in the performances to make you somewhat glad you did, you might not want to again.”

As for Only Murders In The Building, season four scored a four-star review from Nick Levine, who wrote for NME: “As the season progresses, the murder investigation becomes more gripping and the punchlines keep on coming. So, let’s hope they’re already working on their season five wish list – surely Martin Short has Catherine O’Hara’s number?”
