Shihad Expand Australian Farewell Tour With Full-Album Playthrough Shows

Shihad have added a series of new shows to their upcoming Australian tour, which is set to be the band’s last. Since going on sale in November 2024, the band have sold out four dates across Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne. The Sydney show on Friday, February 14th, has since been moved from its original venue of the Metro Theatre to the UNSW Roundhouse. Now, three additional dates have been included on the Wellington band’s Loud Forever farewell tour – the full updated schedule of which can be found below.

At the new shows in Perth and Melbourne, Shihad will be performing their fourth album, 1999’s The General Electric, in its entirety. At the band’s newly-announced Brisbane show, meanwhile, they will be playing its follow-up, 2002’s Pacifier, in full. Battlesnake will once again serve as support for the Perth and Brisbane shows, which are set for the Rosemount Hotel and the recently-reopened Crowbar Brisbane, respectively. The General Electric Melbourne show will be at the Corner Hotel.

Shihad – ‘Comfort Me’

The General Electric was originally released in October of 1999, recently celebrating its 25th anniversary. The album topped the charts in New Zealand and went triple platinum, making it their most commercially successful album. It also reached the top 30 of the ARIA Charts locally, peaking at number 23, and ultimately achieving gold certification.

Pacifier, meanwhile, was released in August of 2002. The album is notable for being the only album released under the name Pacifier, which the band undertook that year due to wanting to crack the US market and being told that their band name sounded too similar to “jihad” – a taboo word in post-9/11 America. The album went double platinum in New Zealand but failed to chart in the US, with the band ultimately returning to the Shihad moniker in 2004 with the release of the single ‘Alive’.
