Show Must Go On—Trevor Noah Returns for 5th Year as Host of the Grammys
Trevor Noah is returning for the fifth consecutive year as the host of the Grammy Awards. After the devastating wildfires in LA, the Recording Academy says it will raise funds to support relief efforts and honoring first responders as well.
The Grammy Awards will go on as planned at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on February 2 and will be live on CBS and Paramount+ for streaming. The 67th annual Grammy Awards are produced by Fulwell 73 Productions for the Recording Academy. Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor, and Jesse Collins are executive producers of the awards ceremony.
Other awards shows delayed their scheduled ceremonies due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, but the Recording Academy says the Grammys will go ahead as planned. They will place additional focus on relief efforts instead of canceling or postponing the show. Several Grammy parties were also cancelled amid somber attitudes for those impacted by the fires.
“The 67th annual Grammy Awards will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” said CBS in a press release confirming Trevor Noah as the host this year.
In a revised mission letter to Recording Academy members, Harvey Mason Jr. addressed why the Grammys is going forward. “In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort, and unite like nothing else. The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great City of Los Angeles,” the letter reads.
The Recording Academy and its charitable organization MusiCares have revealed a relief campaign offering financial, medical, and personal assistance to music industry professionals impacted by the wildfires. MusiCares has already raised and distributed $2 million in emergency aid. Several other industry organizations have announced relief funds for those impacted. Digital Music News has cataloged a run down of those relief efforts here for anyone who needs assistance.
