Sum 41 have announced the cancellation of their Australia tour, citing Deryck Whibley’s battle with pneumonia.

News.com.au reported today (December 5) that the pop-punk band made the announcement on a Facebook post, which has since been deleted: “It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed,” they wrote, adding that they were “beyond excited” to “connect with our Aussie fans once more.”

Sum 41 intend to disband after their current Tour of the Setting Sum tour, which concludes on January 30, 2025. The Australia dates were set to be the band’s last performances of the year.

In their statement, they added that Whibley has been “under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors”, and that the cancellation is due to the fact that “Deryck is too unwell to perform”.

Sum 41 were set to co-headline Good Things Festival with Korn in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney this weekend. The festival relayed the announcement on social media, adding that “Deryck’s health and wellbeing is the focus and priority”.

The festival is still set to host Korn along with Violent Femmes, Mastodon, Billy Corgan, Jet, and Slayer‘s Kerry King, among others, starting Friday (December 6) in Melbourne.

Whibley recently published his memoir Walking Disaster, in which he accused Grieg Nori – who is also the frontman for fellow pop-punk group Treble Charger – of grooming him, as well as sexually and verbally abusing him for years.

Nori denied the allegations, claiming to the Toronto Star that it was Whibley who initiated the relationship, as well as saying that accusations of “grooming” were false as they were both allegedly adults when the relationship began.

Whibley responded, saying: “If you think I’m a liar, there is only one way to settle this: under oath. In front of a judge, in front of a jury, anytime you want. I’m ready whenever you are.”
