Tame Impala Embody The Wiggles to Close Outside Lands 2021

On Oct. 31, Tame Impala brought their new “Rushium” stage show to their closing set at Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco.

However, Halloween was afoot, so bandleader Kevin Parker and company did trick the audience with a cancellation fake-out, appearing to replace Tame Impala with The Wiggles after a “Squid Game event” (Parker wore the children’s group’s purple uniform sweater for the whole set, and the rest of the band similarly dressed in line with the theme).

“Happy Halloween, guys,” Parker told the massive crowd early on.

Highlights from the show included an opening tour debut of Lonerism track “Enders Toi” and selections from 2020’s The Slow Rush, including “Borderline” and “Breathe Deeper.”

Halfway through the 75-minute set, fan favorite “Elephant” gave way to the tour debut of “Yes, I’m Changing.”

“Here’s one we haven’t played in a while,” Parker grinned before the latter tune.

Not soon after, Tame Impala also offered the triple-threat of “Let It Happen,” “It Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” and “Eventually.” Naturally, the band’s smoke-and-lasers stage show turned the outdoor venue into a dance party and kept the crowd warm on the crisp San Francisco evening.

Parker and company closed the set with “Runaway, Houses, City, Clouds” off 2010’s InnerSpeaker and encored with a pairing of “The Less I Know The Better” and “New Person Same Old Mistakes.”
