Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ concert film is coming to streaming on December 13 — but it costs nearly $20 for a 48 hour rental, sparking massive debate among fans.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film is finally coming to streaming services on December 13 to celebrate the singer’s birthday, much to the excitement of Swifties everywhere. But so far, it’ll only be available to rent — $19.89 for a 48 hour rental.

The movie had a phenomenally successful run in theaters in October, breaking records for concert films that have previously catered to more of a niche crowd. Typically, concert films feature a documentary-style format rather than an in-theater concertgoing experience — and now, Taylor Swift fans can relive that experience in the comfort of their own home.

Even better, Taylor has confirmed that the extended cut of the film will be available on streaming, including the previously omitted performances of “Wildest Dreams,” “Long Live,” and “The Archer” that concertgoers were treated to on the North American leg of the tour.

But some fans have been left feeling a little sour by the price of the rental, since there has yet to be an announcement that the film will be available to buy. The Eras Tour concert film will cost $19.89 to rent for 48 hours — a price some fans think is way too steep.

“I’ve decided charging for a theatre ticket, then to rent, and then probably to watch on a streaming service is overkill,” writes one fan. “If I’m spending $19.89 on a movie, I better own that for life and not just rent it,” adds another.

“$19.89 seems a lot for a rental, or is that just me? I know I’m aging myself, but when I worked at a video store, it was like $3.99 for 5 days,” someone else tweets.

Some fans were quick to come to Swift’s defense with claims that a $20 rental price is standard for video-on-demand, especially for films that are still in theaters or have just been released to on-demand services. For example, the Barbie film released earlier this year cost about $25 to rent when it reached streaming services.

“Some of you remember that you paid $19.89 to see The Eras Tour in theaters ONE time, right? And some of you did that multiple times. How is paying $19.89 for a 48 hour rental worse than that? You can watch it up to ~16 times in those 48 hours. That’s a bargain compared to theaters.”

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film will be available to rent on video-on-demand services including Apple TV+, Google Play, Prime Video, Vudu, Xfinity, and YouTube starting December 13.
