Taylor Swift Shown 54 Seconds at Super Bowl LVIII—Record-Setting Game for the NFL
Taylor Swift was shown for a total of 54 seconds at Super Bowl LVIII. Viewership surged to 123.4 million—boosted by an overtime nail-biter game and glimpses of Swift cheering on her Chiefs tight-end boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
The Swift/Kelce pairing has drawn a lot of ire from football fans throughout the 2023/4 football season, but there’s no denying she’s been great for ratings. Many Swifties tuned into their first Super Bowl ever—wearing a Kelce jersey in support of their favorite pop-star.
With record-setting viewership of the big game, just how long was Taylor Swift on screen during Super Bowl LVIII?
The answer is just 54 seconds, six seconds shy of a minute in a four-hour football game. The camera panned to the pop-star a total of 11 times during the entire game, many of them to showcase her reaction to big plays. The average appearance time for Swift during the game was around five seconds per shot. Of course, that doesn’t factor in the amount of times she was shown during pre-game or post-game coverage—just the big game itself.
Preliminary data from Nielsen shows this Super Bowl game was the U.S.’s most-watched television program of all time. The previous record for Super Bowl games was set just last year between the Chiefs/Eagles match-up, reaching 115.1 million views without Taylor Swift’s influence. This was also only the second Super Bowl to go into over-time, but the first with new league rules.
It’s also worth noting that the big game was simultaneously available across Paramount properties including Paramount+ and a special Nickelodeon stream, which featured Spongebob and Patrick as announcers for the game. (Props to Tom Kenny for staying in character for four hours live—Spongebob’s voice is not easy.)
Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show was an amazing performance that set records for his music on Apple Music as his tracks saw a 1,200% boost in searches following his 13-minute set. The set also featured Ludacris, Alicia Keys, will.i.am, Lil Jon, H.E.R. and Jermaine Dupri.
