The 1975‘s Matty Healy and Azealia Banks have ended up in an online feud, with the former criticising the latter for her criticism of Charli XCX.

Healy’s bandmate George Daniel is engaged to Charli and they also appeared on her recent remix album ‘Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat’, guesting on the track ‘I might say something stupid’.

In response to the video for Charli’s 2014 track ‘Break The Rules’ re-circulating on the internet after her surge in popularity with ‘Brat’ summer, Banks wrote on X/Twitter: “Charli used to be soooo pretty. Ugh. Boaaa, I swear them weho gays be having the girls questioning themselves meanwhile they all scraping k off a cookie sheet, eating cold bossanova and sharing panties. Tuh.”

Healy – who recently resurrected his Truman Black X/Twitter account – then defended Charli in another tweet. “Azealia you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads’. All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people,” he wrote. “I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro.”

Of course. They make urban outfitters music for tweenies. And tbh I have never set foot in a spotify or even used any of the artist growth tools, I need to change my photo on there . Stay right there. Let me be a thirst ball and add all kinds of random content on there. U… https://t.co/bk30SkORpi

Banks then doubled down. In response to Healy, she said: “Hmmmm. That wasn’t a read. I’ve known Charli since she was 16 and always thought she was absolutely gorgeous, but there’s a stark contrast between this and this,” she wrote, comparing images of Charli ten years ago and now.

In a subsequent post, she added: “The bitch look like Frankenstein to me. You both look like you share needles. Lmao.

“Alas, I still don’t know any of your music but make sure you keep all that shit behind your keyboard. This is hiphop n***a, and you are very easy to set up. A bad bag, a bad pill.. it only costs $200 and an ounce of weed to do you. and the three little n***as will SPLIT IT.”

Healy then fired back: “I now you think your life is some episode of the library is open but I am not the one. Talk to me like that I’m not gonna side eye you at an awards do I’m going to fucking slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness world record for the highest a rat some bitch calls a wig has ever flown.”

The tweet was later deleted and Healy apologised. “Nah I can’t be saying I’m gonna hit a girl that’s insane I’m sorry. You just can’t keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs it’s really hurtful gets me well defensive,” he said in another post.

Tagging Banks, he jokingly added: “No but we should actually sort this out on the remix,” in reference to Charli’s collaboration with Lorde, ‘Girl, so confusing’.

When asked by a fan what she thought of Healy’s apology, Banks said: “At least he admits he wants to be my friend Instead of hiding behind fake outrage. But if he wants to be my friend he has to come to miami for a surprise York peppermint patty party.”

Banks, however, continued to insult Healy and The 1975, saying that “they make urban outfitters music for tweenies”.

Replying to a fan who was shocked over Healy’s ‘just rap bro’ comment, she added: “I’m actually a better singer than Matty. I did take a offense to “Just rap bro” because 1. Im not a bro 2. Im a singer first. 3. Were not about to satisfy any of these bitches egos because i sing better than all them girls, so I might have to shit on him and all of them just for arts sake. I could trick any of those 1975 joints into a soul/funk anthem and really crumb hoes. I will pick one.

“Lol u really be thinking n***s care? I’m AZEALIA BANKS,” she wrote in response to another fan. “The girls spend so much time hating on me it makes the boys really intrigued. He really just wanted to chat and say hi. He was cool. I was talking about girl politic but he really couldn’t give a flying fuck. Lmao”

It also didn’t stop her from posting about Healy’s dental hygiene. “Stick up for these jibs dear, they look like white castle burger onions. It’s clear you do not floss enough, dont use the right toothpaste, should quit cigs, and you wait till after coffee to brush your teeth. Your gums look inflamed like early signs of gingivitis,” she said.

It’s not the first time Banks has had beef with another artist. In March, she dismissed Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ as being “white women cosplay” and called Troye Sivan an “expired twink”. She has also had feuds with the likes of Grimes, Lana Del Rey  and Iggy Azalea.

In other news, Healy recently appeared to have revealed the tracklist to a new album from The 1975.

Taking to X/Twitter on November 18, the post simply read: “Alone Together. Give us back our present. Oh yeah? The Philmarillion. Owe God A Death. Commercials in a hotel room. EVERYTHINGAMAZINGNOBODYHAPPY. We were promised set backs. Pepsi-Cola Addict. Naked when you found her. ‘He’s White’. There are only individuals. TaxmanTaxmanInjectioHobby.”

Shortly after, Healy responded to the update and told fans: “This is my ‘names for our children’ folder”.
