Last night, The Disco Biscuits blew through San Diego’s Observatory North Park for the sixth stop on its four-month Why We Dance Tour. Following opening act Omega Views and a soundcheck of “Naeba” and “Uber Glue,” the band exploded into a set to remember, loaded with teases, reprises and two bust-outs that captivated the crowd all evening.
To open the show, the group reprised “Basis For A Day,” picking up where it left off in an incomplete encore from its Feb. 1 show. The Disco Biscuits kept the energy at a roar by transitioning to “Boom Shanker,” a Conspirator original last performed on Nov. 26, 2021; since its 2006 debut at Camp Bisco V, the rarity has been staged only 34 times. Next, the band played “Nughuffer,” then segued into “Orch Theme”–with a tease of Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”–and “Vibes,” followed by a return to “Nughuffer” to conclude the set.
“42” kicked off the second set, ornamented with a tease of Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime.” The band then shook things up with an inverted treatment of “Grass is Green,” which led into “Cyclone” and “Munchkin Invasion,” the latter of which completed its unfinished presentation on Feb. 1. Finally, The Disco Biscuits wrapped the second set with “Monster” and a reflection of “42,” then capped of the evening with an encore bust-out of “Sister Judy’s Soul Shack,” last performed by the group on Sept. 19, 2021.
Tonight, The Disco Biscuits will headline Gem & Jam Festival in Tuscon, Ariz., before a three-night run at Aspen, Colo.’s Belly Up. For tickets and information on more upcoming appearances, visit discobiscuits.com/shows
