Here’s a little snippet:

This is also the first time you’ve had a full band around you to bring a particular vision to life rather than it just being you with a guitar. How has having that network surrounding you affected how you approach things?
“I think that one thing that’s super important to me about what the Homeless Gospel Choir gets to do is create a sense of community wherever we go. We get to create a sense of belonging and a sense of care. I think that burden grew too broad for me to go out there and do on my own every night. Plus, the greatest treasure we have in this world is each other. Without people we’ve got nothing. It’s important for me to have that support system around me whilst also having creative people there to push me.

“I just wanted to change the aspect. I wanted this to look like a celebration instead of just one person on an acoustic guitar. It can now look like a wild group of people experiencing joy and excitement. Also, I wasn’t hearing sad acoustic cowboy songs in my mind anymore. I was hearing fast, loud punk songs with drums and bass and a chorus of singing. If that’s what I was hearing, I had to be true to that.”

As an artist it’s so important to follow through when you feel that calling to do something different. You never know if you will regret it or not.
“Yeah, it would have been very dishonest of me to just make these songs acoustic. It wouldn’t be an accurate portrayal of the story that I’m trying to tell. In order to incorporate the chaos and hysteria into the songs when it represents how things are going haywire, I had to incorporate more in.”
